You'd
like to keep your Baby Tree in its packaging for a couple of weeks…
Leave
the packaging open. It's important not to close it again as your Baby Tree
needs natural light.
Remove the red trim from the foot of your Baby Tree and water the soil.
Your Baby Tree will be fine like this for a fortnight if you water it
every three or four days. Let the packaging drip dry. Beware of strong
sunshine, draughts, sun shining through glass, radiators and, above all,
air conditioning.
Remember that there is no such thing as an indoor tree, and no such
thing as a cardboard plant pot for balconies i.e. leaving the Baby
Tree in its box, once it has been opened, is not a long-term option.
You'd
like to put your Baby Tree in a plant pot and enjoy it all year
round...
Be careful of strong winds, frost and excessive sunshine...
Select a pot at least 20 cm wide and 20 cm deep. To stop roots
getting waterlogged, choose a simple terracotta pot with a hole in
the bottom.
Arrange a layer of gravel or broken crocks at the bottom then fill
with compost.
In the centre, hollow out a hole for the rootball.
Pack down lightly, without covering over the earth the Baby Tree was
delivered in.
After potting up, steep the plant pot in a clean container filled
with water for a few minutes until you can see droplets of water
pearling through the compost.
Remove the plant pot and allow to drain.
