(Bébé laurier de 16 mois)
Symbolism:
- Conveying an image of Candour and Beauty,
laurel was the symbol of Sagacity and Victory in Ancient
Egypt.
In Rome, it was used to crown the successes of students,
sportsmen and great warriors.
In the Middle Ages, universities acknowledged the merit
of their sages by covering them with laurels. Graduates
in medicine were honoured with crowns of plaited leaves
decorated with laurel berries called bacca laurea, the true
origin of the name "baccalaureate", the exam at
the end of secondary education that opens the door to university
-
- Useful tips:
If you wish to keep your laurel in a pot
for several years, or if the climate where you live is harsh,
place the laurel comfortably in a wide, deep pot in a very
sunny corner, where it will be protected from the wind and
frost.
You can harvest the leaves for their easily recognisable
scent all year round – they'll be twice as fragrant if you
dry them.
